On a chilly and damp Saturday (28th April) our girls football team took part in the English Schools Football Association Regional Finals. They were representing Derbyshire against 10 other schools from across the Midlands. Each school had won their county competition, so it proved to be a very tough contest. Last year our girls team managed to win one game, so this year we hoped to improve on that. Just qualifying was already a celebration of the county success and a great achievement.
The girls began well with 1-0 victories in their first two games. They then played a very strong team from Shropshire (who went on to win the overall competition) and lost 0-2 but with no disgrace. A 0-0 draw followed, which meant they needed only a draw to go through to the semis. Sadly, it wasn't to be and they lost 0-2. Madeleine, our captain, had played with an injury and unfortunately this took its toll as the games went by.
So they missed out by just one point. However, the girls gave their very best throughout the cold wet day. A terrific team effort!
Many thanks to our ever supportive parents for the transport and fantastic support to the girls. They also put up the gazebo up very well too!
