My name is Mrs Fowkes and I am delighted to be teaching Y3 again this year. I have been teaching at MJS for a long time now (I was Miss Thomas when I first started) so I may have already taught some of your siblings or other friends and relatives.
I teach in Cherry Class, along with Mrs Harnden (I taught her children at MJS too!) and work on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. I have three children of my own who are going into Y6, Y3 and starting reception, in the school near where I live. I've also been 'homeschooling' on the days I've not been in school recently and have a found it a very different experience to teaching a class!
You will have noticed from the video that I have an accent. Many years ago now, I moved from the valleys of South Wales to come to Derby to study at university and have stayed in Derbyshire ever since. My family are still in Wales, so I try to visit when I can.
I love animals and being by the sea as I love the sound of the ocean (although I don't like getting wet!). I used to play the cornet and trumpet and played in numerous bands before I had the children, but I haven't played for a while now - my time is spent taking my children to their music lessons instead!
My favourite time of the day is when we share a class story.
I'm very much looking forward to meeting you all very soon.
