Daily message from Mrs Whirledge

Good morning.

It was the Summer Solstice over the weekend. This is when the sun is highest in the sky and we get the most daylight hours. This is why it is often called the longest day. The countries which are closest to the North Pole have more daylight hours than we do in Derbyshire. In many, there is no significant period of darkness at this time of the year. This is why some are called 'The Land of the Midnight Sun'. For us it can mean it is difficult to get to sleep because it is still daylight, and we are woken up early as it gets light.

Let's try to make the most of the daylight hours whatever we are doing.
