Dear Parent/ Carer

Safeguarding

A parent has reported an incident at the end of the day yesterday (15.35) in the alley between Chapel Street and Derby Road where a middle-aged male exposed himself to urinate. He appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. The police have been informed.

Covid

We have had a number of queries from parents about whether children should attend school and/or obtain a Covid test.

The DFE have produced a leaflet to help you with this which is on our website. The link is here:

https://www.education-ni.gov.uk/sites/default/files/publications/education/012176%20Department%20of%20Education%20Parent%20%26%20Carer%20Information%20A4%20NEW%20HR.PDF

I am aware that the current situation with school lunches has caused some consternation. I am pleased to inform you that, from 5 October, children will be served their meals on flight trays. Mrs Russell will be using the summer menu with a couple of changes. Children will continue to eat in classrooms to keep bubbles secure.

In the event of the closure of a bubble, work will be set for your child. We will use Microsoft Teams for this and log in details will be sent to you shortly.

We request that you complete the short survey about the availability of home technology to help us:

If your child is self-isolating and well enough to work at home, worksheets will be available from the school.

In order to ease congestion outside at the end of each day, we request that only one adult comes onto school premises and that you leave the site promptly once you have collected your child.

Please observe our one-way systems. The only exception is for parents with children in both schools, or with children in more than one class. This measure is to help protect everyone’s safety.

Secondary School Applications

Parents of Year 6 pupils will have received a leaflet providing details of the process for applications for a place at secondary school. These should be completed, online, by 31 October. Please contact the school if you require any assistance completing the form.

Flu vaccinations – 23 October

Please visit https://www.derbyshireandcityimms.co.uk/Forms/Flu to complete the consent form.  The option to consent or decline the vaccination is at the end of the questionnaire so please complete even if you do not want your child to have the vaccination.

Your unique school code for Melbourne Junior School is DD112593

For more information about the vaccination and the date we are due into your school please visit our website: http://www.derbyshireschoolnurses.org.uk/parents/immunisations

It is unlikely that we will be able to run “catch up” clinics this year so please make sure you complete a consent form before the date we are due into school.

If you experience any problems, please call the School Age Immunisation Team:

Repton: 01283 707178

Or email us DCHST.immunisationteam@nhs.net

Book Amnesty

If your child has reading or library books at home from last year from either the infant or junior schools, please return them to their current class and we will redistribute them.

Updates

I have received much positive feedback about the book vouchers. I have passed on your thanks to our anonymous benefactor.

It was good to see Year 6 enjoying outdoor and adventurous activities this week in school. We hope to be able to offer each year group something on site over the academic year.

You will have seen that the pantomime at Derby Arena is not going ahead this year.

Thank you for your ongoing support. Or priority continues to be to remain open for all of our children and we request your support in adhering to HM Government guidelines to support this.

Yours sincerely

Jane Whirledge
