School Closure and Key Workers

Dear Parents/Carers,

Re: Coronavirus update – school closure to most pupils

I would like to thank you for your messages of support, they are much appreciated.

Following on from my last update, I’m writing to let you know that we have been instructed to close the school to almost all children after this Friday until further notice.

As advised by the government, we will do all we can to stay open for the children of key workers. We are still awaiting the full list from the Cabinet Office but understand that the Government has defined those as teachers, teaching assistants supporting those with EHCPs, health workers, social care workers (both children’s services and adult services), carers such as foster carers, blue light services and those who provide vital logistical supplies such as delivery drivers and utilities engineers and children with certain needs whose families we will contact directly.

We are waiting for the government to publish more information on what this means, but it would help us in the meantime if you would let us know if you think that your child may fall into one of these categories. Please email with your child’s name, class and your occupation. Please indicate how you would like to access this service e.g. Monday - Friday in order to help us plan. We’ll be in touch again as soon as we are sure who this does apply to and with regards to school meals and timings of the day. Please ensure only this information is sent at this time and await a further email with more details.

All other children will need to stay at home, so we ask that you do not send your child into school from Monday onwards. Your child will be sent home with a learning pack either today or tomorrow. If they are absent from school, these can be collected, if is safe for you to do so.

In addition, there will be regular updates on the Year Group pages of the website.

Please note that this is a national closure – as you may have heard in the news – so while it is a challenging situation, we are not alone. We’ll re-open fully as soon as we can and will let you know when this is by email.

This is as much as we know right now, and we appreciate your continued patience as we deal with this ever-changing situation. We understand that this latest news will have an impact on you and your family and it’s far from ideal, but we’ll continue to keep in touch with any updates as the situation develops.

If you want to get in touch with any queries, please do not hesitate to do so via

We would like to achieve something positive on Friday as our last normal day of operation. We request that all children come to school in colourful and cheerful clothing in exchange for an item of tinned or packet food which can be distributed to those who need it most. We know that everyone is anxious about the current climate, but we would like to try and do something as a school community to help people who need it the most.

Thank you again for your continued support, and we will be in touch with more information when we can.

Yours sincerely,

Jane Whirledge
