On Tuesday 3rd July Year 6 enjoyed a day of art activities led by Sharon Brown and a super team of volunteers from the Melbourne Arts Festival.
The theme for this year's festival is World War I, celebrating 100 years since the end of the war and remembering particularly those young men from Melbourne who lost their lives in the war.
Children at school have already knitted 500 poppies with the Knitting Club and today Year 6 made felt poppies to be attached to netting that will be hung on the Melbourne Pool gates.
They also painted poppy fields on large boxes, created life-size silhouettes of soldiers and made "postcards from the front". The children's work will be displayed during the festival at Pool Cottage and Melbourne Fire-station.
It was a truly inspiring day that gave children the chance to express their creativity and help make a contribution to the Arts Festival.
