Phonics and Spelling

The school is currently using the Read, Write, Inc. Spelling programme.  This programme fulfills the National Curriculum spelling objectives.  Each year group has its own pupil book and a unit of work would normally be taught over two weeks: two to three fifteen minute sessions and a test per week.

Children will receive a weekly spelling list which comprises of a number of orange words (National Curriculum words) and also a selection words that link to the particular spelling pattern/rule being learnt. Common words that are being regularly misspelt  in independent writing may also be included. The children are encouraged to use a range of different strategies to practise their weekly spellings.

Some children, who may not be secure in their phonics skills, may revise content within the Letters and Sounds document through targeted intervention.
