Phonics at MJS
On entry to MJS, as part of the Early Reading Journey, children's phonic awareness will be assessed using a thorough diagnostic assessment. Some children may require targeted, daily phonic intervention to address any gaps in learning.
The 'Derbyshire County Council Catch-up Packs' used are based on the 'Letters and Sounds' programme and are designed to be used flexibly to target specific gaps in learning. Periodic assessment will be conducted to monitor progress.
Children will take home an additional reading book, which is linked to their learning in phonics.
