Sports Premium

The PE and Sport Premium is a government grant given to primary schools to help improve the quality of physical education (PE), school sport, and physical activity for all children. The funding aims to ensure that every child has access to high‑quality PE lessons, a wide range of sports, and lots of opportunities to stay active. [gov.uk]

How Much Funding Do Schools Receive?

For the 2025–26 academic year:

  • Schools receive a base amount of £16,000, plus £10 per pupil in Years 1–6 (for schools with 17 or more eligible pupils).
  • Funding is paid in two instalments: half in the autumn term and half in the spring term.

At Melbourne Junior School, we use the funding to make additional  improvements to PE, sport, and physical activity. This means the funding should add to what we already provide as well as helping us to provide long‑term benefits for our pupils.

We use the funding to:

  • Improve the quality of PE lessons by providing resources and CPD for our staff.

  • Increase opportunities for all pupils to take part in sport and physical activity both within PE lessons and in other lessons.

  • Offer more chances for children to take part in competitions, special sporting events and different sporting opportunities.
