We were delighted to welcome the Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire, Mrs Fothergill and Councillor Muller to the planting of a Newton Wonder apple tree, donated by Mr John Jackson of Swarkestone Nursery. The Lord Lieutenant was ably supported by Oscar and Gracie, our School Council presidents
The tree was planted to start our celebrations of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy We are indebted to Mr and Mrs Kerr for help with the organisation of this event.
Year 6 enjoyed a fantastic afternoon with Hawk-eye Falconry. The children met a selection of beautiful birds and many had the chance to fly them.
We are currently a collection point for the following items for the Ukrainian Centre in Weston on Trent. These will be taken to Poland for Ukrainian refugees.

At MJS, we value reading all of the time but BIG READ WEEK is a chance to have fun exploring new books and authors during a special week dedicated to reading for pleasure!
We have taken part in a number of quizzes, competitions and activities including: The Masked Reader, Guess the Shelfie, Extreme Reading, Book in a Box, dressing up on World Book Day and learning the World Book Day Rap. We also took part in the Reading Relay - our classrooms have never been so quiet! Children (and teachers) completely absorbed in a good book. Hopefully, we've raised enough sponsorship to purchase some books from our wish list.
