Working Scientifically

Working Scientifically

In line with the National Curriculum, we endeavour to teach children that we can 'work scientifically' in different ways.

The 5 main ways are:

  • Exploring
  • Grouping and classifying
  • Observing changes over time
  • Fair testing/pattern seeking
  • Researching using secondary sources.

In September, every year group takes part in a 'working scientifically' carousel to teach and recap how to use these skills to further increase the children's science knowledge.  Planning identifies opportunities for these skills to be taught and practised alongside conceptual knowledge, rather than in isolation.

See the attached document for a suggested, but not exhaustive, list of opportunities for working scientifically in each year group.
