Year 5

Recorders
In our music lessons, we have been learning how to play the recorder. In Y5, we have focused on learning the notes G,A and B and playing tunes with those notes. This has enabled us to practise reading the music and playing together as an ensemble. We will continue with the recorder during lessons throughout the year, using it in our improvisations and compositions in other units.

Our DT topic this term was to design and create a stuffed toy. This involved evaluation examples of stuffed toys, designing our own and creating a template then using a variety of stitches to join the material together and add details such as applique, beads and buttons. We are delighted with the final products - there are some potential future textile artists in Y5!

In Art this term, we explored mixed media art and the work of the artist Chila Kumari Singh Burman. We then created our own mixed-media portraits and displayed them in the Year 5 corridor.

Year 5 classes - Pine and Cherry
Welcome to Y5!
Cherry Class - Your teachers are Mrs Fowkes and Mrs Argent. Mrs Fowkes teaches Monday to Wednesday and Mrs Argent teaches every other Wednesday afternoon, Thursday and Friday.
Pine Class - Your teacher is Miss Price.
Mrs Lloyd-Anderson will be supporting Cherry Class until Mrs Winfield returns from maternity leave.
Miss Fortin-Tobin will support Pine Class
Mrs Gibbons will provide TA support across the classes.
PPA Cover
Mrs Worthington will teach Pine class on a Tuesday PM. Mrs Fowkes and Mrs Argent will cover each other for PPA every other Wednesday.
Cherry PE days are on a Monday and Friday. Pine are Tuesday and Friday, so please come to school on those days in your PE kits.
Cherry will swim on Friday afternoons from Friday 11th September 2023. Please come to school in school uniform and bring your swimming kit and a suitable bag to put your wet towel and swimming costume in. Pine will swim in the Spring term.
